Jahidah (Founder & CEO)

I was born in Queens, New York, and grew up in the beautiful town of Diego Martin on the island of Trinidad. Looking back, I realize I had the best of both worlds growing up. On one hand, I enjoyed the glorious sun, fresh air, great fresh food, tons of outdoor activities, and on the other, I enjoyed my summers in New York City with family.

Once I relocated to New York to pursue my career in healthcare, my lifestyle changed drastically and so did my health. The changes of the seasons, the abundance of fast food, a more sedentary lifestyle, a high-stress overnight job all contributed to my failing health that culminated in my diagnosis of Pseudo Tumor Cerebri. It was at that moment I had my first awakening of how stress and inadequate sleep along with poor eating habits can break your body.

Thankfully I recovered and was able to re-enter the workforce. I continued to battle with fluctuating weight gain and once I got pregnant with my first daughter and had to manage a high-risk pregnancy, I realized that my inconsistent dietary changes did not serve me. My complex pregnancy resulted in pre-eclampsia, an emergency C-section, and a pre-term baby. I had my second awakening. It became really clear, the importance of how the quality of food I consumed impacted my health and subsequently the health of my daughter. At that point, I immersed myself in understanding the relationship between food, environment, and health as the path to improving my well-being.

I feel better (physically, psychologically, and emotionally), after making significant dietary changes. My health has improved. As I learn more, I continue to make modifications to my lifestyle that further enhance and optimize my health and overall well-being.

I share my story to inspire that woman who is like I was…in need of tools, information, and support to improve their health. It is attainable and sustainable!
